Application Information

Requests for The Paul Calabresi Medical Student Research Fellowship are to be submitted online by the appropriate representative of the school or university by September 1, 2008. Please note that no applications will be accepted after the deadline date. Awards may be activated beginning January 1, 2009 or on the first day of any month thereafter, up to and including August 1, 2009. They will be announced no later than December 15, 2008.

To apply, the following information must be submitted:

1. Registration Information. Submit your information online by following the steps in the registration process.

2. The application consists of the information requested below in the form of an extended letter from the applicant:

    (a) Candidate Name, Personal Data, Education and Training -- Curriculum Vitae, Prior Research Experience, Bibliography, if any.

    (b) The name of the immediate supervisor of the student must be stated and his relation to the project indicated. The supervisor's curriculum vitae and bibliography are to be submitted in NIH format/PHS 398. Please limit to no more than 3 pages.

    (c) A description of the proposed research, including the background, aims, methods, significance and facilities available. This description should be relatively direct, should include only the most pertinent references, and should focus primarily on the aspect of the program of research in which the applicant will be involved. The other principals involved in the project and their time allocated to the project must also be listed. Please type, single-space, type size 12 point or larger and number pages. This portion should be 5 pages not including bibliography. For clarity, if abbreviations or initials are used in the plan, the first use of the abbreviation or initials should be followed by the full name or explanation.

    (d) The candidate must state how the fellowship will assist them in making a choice on the type of career in pharmacology or clinical pharmacology they will pursue. This letter should outline the chronology of the student's medical/dental education indicating exactly where in the process from matriculation to graduation the fellowship falls. Please state how this award will affect your career in the future.

    (e) The applicant should list other support that they are receiving

3. A letter from the head of the unit in which the project is to be undertaken is necessary, indicating that the facilities, the equipment and the supplies necessary to carry out the proposed research will be available to the student. The role of the student should be clearly defined.

4. Please note if application involves research on drugs for special populations.
