Application Information

Applications are to be submitted online by September 1, 2008. Please note that no applications will be accepted after the deadline date.

Awards to be made for the year beginning January 1, 2008 will be acknowledged no later than December 15, 2008.

To apply, all of the following must be submitted.

1. Registration Information. Submit your information online by following the steps in the registration process.

2. Letters of support from the department head and sponsor of the candidate (if different).

3. An extended letter that includes the following information. This portion (excluding c.v.) should not exceed a total of 15 numbered single-spaced typewritten pages of type size 12 point or larger.

    (a) Candidate
    Name, Personal Data, Citizenship/Permanent Residency, Experience in research,Education and Research and Training, (including c.v.), Bibliography.

    (b) Name of postdoctoral advisor, where appropriate.

    (c) Research plan covering: (Please do not omit any information requested)

    (1) Description of the proposed research aims, methods or procedures and significance. This is to be written by the candidate;

    (2) Other principals to be involved in the project and the amount of time to be devoted to the project by the applicant and other principals;

    (3) Listing by titles of the other research projects of each of the principals and the amount of time devoted to each, plus the amount and source of funds for these projects;

    (4) Identification of the amount of intramural support presently available to the candidate for the proposed project and any other research efforts. List the budget categories and amounts. If the school makes available the services of a technician to the candidate, note this.

    (5) Identification of the part of the proposal that is to be directly initiated or expedited by the Foundation's funds.

    (d) No budget needs to be presented. However, if funds in excess of $1,500 are to be spent on the purchase of permanent equipment, this must be noted.

    (e) Copies (PDF or Word doc.) or appropriate web link of each article published or ready for publication by the candidate that have a bearing on the intended research or the individual's prior accomplishments should accompany the application. Scanned photocopies of articles furnished to the PhRMA Foundation in fulfillment of this requirement must be in compliance with U.S. copyright law.

4. For those research projects involving human subjects, a properly executed protection of human subject certification must be included. If it is not possible to include this with the application and still meet the application deadline, the latest this certification may reach the Foundation for the application to be considered is October 1, 2008.
